Introducing Ijeoma: Inspiring Music
Ijeoma Daisy Okwara got into the spotlight in 2008 when she made it through to the maiden edition of MTN’s Project Fame West Africa, a musical reality TV show.
Though it turned out to be short lived as she was ousted from the competition early, she is only dwelling on her positive experiences from the show. She describes the experience as “more than a competition.
For me, it wasn’t just about singing someone else’s song and getting judged, its basically about having your own songs at the end of the day and the experience i got from the show has actually made the ladder to the top a little shorter for me.”
Born in Owerri, Imo State, she started singing consciously at Girls Secondary School, Ikenegbu, when she enlisted in a choral group that represents the school at musical competitions.
After graduation, she moved to Lagos in 2008 in search of a job, but music found her first. “I heard about the MTN Project Fame and decided to put in for the fun of competing with others inmusic.”
Taking cues from her favourite kinds of songs, R&B, soul and inspirational songs, Ijeoma describes her kind of music as Soul music with a blend of Reggae and Dance music.
