The Legacy of A Genius: Pete Rock Talks His Best Three Beats

Legendary hip-hop producer Pete Rock is one of my favorite hip-hop producers. My first work I got was his 'Soul Survivors' record.

But i was blown away when my barber played me 'They Reminisce Over You', the single off the his collaborative effort 'Mecca and The Soul Brother' with seasoned rapper CL Smooth. I did some research and finally got the album and still bumped that ish real hard.

I also respect Pete Rock fro his work on Nas' classic Lp 'Illmatic'. Tracks like 'The world is yours'. One of the tracks that made that album a classic. It was actually the 3rd single.
The thing I love about Pete the most is his use of the horns (trumpets, sax et al) and of course his art of sampling. Pete Rock has the subtle approach DJ Premiere lacks (Respect to Preemo!!!!). I think this is where 9th Wonder got his calm beat making style too.

Pete Rock's latest work is with hip-hop duo Smif-N-Wessun, yet another brilliant work. Album is titled 'Monumental'. My fav is track #1 which shares the same name as the album and features a classic verse from Pete and also a hook from Tyler Woods.

Praiz And Bez Record 'Stupid Song'

Fast rising artistes Bez and X3M Music's Praiz have collaborated on a duet titled 'Stupid Song' which will be released on Bez's debut album 'Super Sun'.

The song was produced by the very talented Cobhams Asuquo and was also recorded in his studios. As you know, Bez is signed to C.A.M.P (Cobhams Asuquo Music Production).

Praiz got a call from CAMP on Friday, July 8 about the recording and after talks with both labels, both acts got recording.

The song was done within a session at Cobhams studio. 'It's definitely a stunner', a manager at X3M music, who was present at the recording says.

His names are Attah Chidi Euegene but rap gave him a new moniker by the name A.C.E - derived form his initials. He was born in the coal city of Enugu, Nigeria, raised in the USA. He recorded his first song in Newark,New Jersey at the age of 16. Since then he has recorded various tracks and performed in the prestigious Carnegie Hall, a notable theatre house in New Jersey. He relocated back to Nigeria for good in 2003 for the love of music. Since then he has been affiliated with various personalities in the Nigerian music industry and record labels also, such as KD World and La cream records. In 2007 he took a 4 year timeout from the music industry but he is back now to face music squarely. His influences are Tu Pac,Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z and Fela Kuti.

GQ Is Back With The Intro!

Bursting on to the hip-hop scene in Nigeria when he recorded ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ with producer Machyld, GQ is an emcee who fell in love with words at a very tender age thanks to a father and mother who instilled a deep appreciation for books and reading and a brother who stacked comic books. Simultaneously he was also getting a solid background in music with his father constantly feeding him different musical classic and country music.

With time GQ evolved from a poet to a lyricist of above-average ability and a commanding presence on the mic. After years well spent developing and rounding off his craft, GQ is ready to share his words and music, determined after finding his feet again early 2010 to round off the year well.

And rounded off well he did, keeping the airwaves loaded with his monthly releases Hip-hop Monthly from May – October 2010, three tracks per month on which he chronicled issues that were of relevance then. By the end of the six-month project he had amassed an impressive number of followership for an independent artist. He went on to release GQ and Asa: Reflections on a Soul; the Unofficial Remixes free mixtape on which he sampled the beats and vocals of the incredible songstress. This even got him more ground, being the first artist in Nigeria to attempt such a thing and pull it off well.

2010 was indeed a busy and productive year for the emcee as he rounded off the year with his debut, Therapy Music, a free internet/limited hard copy album. With nothing but positive reviews and feedback so far, GQ jumped into 2011 with both legs ready to take the art to the next level, collaborating with super producer XYZ of Str8 Buttah fame for his forthcoming EP XQZ. XYZ is responsible for the bulk of production on the EP, and there are a couple of other contributors on there as well.
With the first single from the project ‘The Intro’, GQ shows no sign of slowing down anything time soon. Get on the bus if you aren’t on it already.

Lineo Hits UK For His Album Listening Party

Pop artist, Adekoya Adegboyega a.k.a Lineo will hit the UK this July 9, 2011 for his upcoming Album listening party. The event which is being organized by UK-based promotion company, QUE-B Entertainment will see the artist performing songs from the coming album and featuring few artists featured on the coming album.

Lineo, who buried his late mum recently has summoned courage to continue with his music career and the album listening party in the UK is one of the lineup of plans to unveil his debut album. According to him, "After the UK listening party, I will return to Lagos to commence a club tour to boost awareness for the coming album."

The upcoming yet-to-be-titled album shelters songs like his hit single, "Show Me The Money" Ft. Dagrin, "Feel It" Ft. 2Face Idibia and "Give Me Some More", which leaked recently.
