EXCLUSIVE EXPOSÉ: IS WIZKID’S “HOLLA AT YOUR BOY” STOLEN PROPERTY???
We would like to shed a little light on the controversy surrounding the originality of Wizkid’s buzzing single “Holla at your boy”. After hearing rumours flying around, we decided to find out a thing or two about the song. And by putting a few search bars to work, we came up with this...read, listen and watch:
WHO IS WIZKID?
Wizkid (Real name Ayodeji Balogun) is a 20 year old singer signed to Banky W’s EME record label. He made his way to the limelight with just a hook on M.I’s “Fast Money, Fast Cars” which was a late single off his (M.I) album “TALK ABOUT IT”. Ever since, Wizkid has featured on different songs with artistes like his record label owner Banky W, Kel, Teeto Ceemos, Hakym to mention a few. His biggest break though was his release of his very own single “Holla at Your Boy” which is gaining controversy. Controversy? You would ask but people have started claiming that the original song belongs to an international artiste called SE7EN.
WHO IS SE7EN?
Se7en (Real names Choi Dong-Wook) is South Korean Pop/R&B singer who started singing professionally in 2003. Se7en made his American debut in 2006 and was a featured guest on popular R&B singer Amerie’s “Take Control” on her album “Because I Love It” which was released in May 2007.
Below is Se7en’s DISCOGRAPHY (List of released albums)
JUST LISTEN (2003)
MUST LISTEN (2004)
24/SE7EN (2006)
SE7OLUTION (2006)
DIGITAL BOUNCE [EP] (2010)
In 2008 Se7en released a digital single titled “Girls” which featured former Bad Boy records and prominent Brooklyn female rapper Lil’ Kim and was produced by renowned hit maker Rodney Jerkins aka Dark Child (Dark Child has produced multi platinum albums for Brandy, Michael Jackson to name a few). The single failed to hit peak positions in Korea and Japan, little wonder it’s unpopularity.

Nice tune you would say uhn? Now let’s hear “Girls” ft Lil’ Kim by Se7en
Listen to “Girls” ft Lil’ Kim by Se7en (Released in 2008)
So you’ve listened, one can say it is apparent that both songs share a striking resemblance or don't they? Especially the opening line of the first verses of both songs:
Se7en says: “Every time I turn around, the girls be looking at me”
Wizkid says: “When you see me come around, I got you looking at me”
Se7en released the video to “Girls” in 2008 while Wizkid released his own video which is still very much fresh in our minds some weeks ago...

~Sade Rejects Jay-Z's Offer To Collaborate~
With all the success he’s seen in his career it’s a safe assumption that Jay-Z rarely hears the word “no.” But that’s exactly the response he received when he asked R&B legend Sade to collaborate with him. And Jigga isn’t the only rapper being denied access to the British soulstress’ talents and samples of her recorded work; she has apparently turned down many similar requests.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times Sade explained her reasons saying, “I’m too scared. They’ll find me out. It’s like The Wizard of Oz. They’ll find out there’s nothing there. As for collaborations, I’m collaborating with the band and do what we do. I see myself as a member of this band who does these songs that we write.” Though she does add that in the unlikely event that an artist does get a sample of Sade’s music cleared it likely won’t cost them much. She jokes, “When it comes to sample clearances, I’m probably the cheapest chick in the west.”
Sade and her band of the same name released Soldier of Love earlier this year to great critical and commercial acclaim, including a number one Billboard debut. They are currently touring in support of the record.

The ORGIN OF SOUNDCITY MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS
Soundcity Music Video awards also called SMVA which debuted in 2008 with its first award has come a long way ,the in – augural edition was spell binding as the attendees were enthralled and transfixed by the thrill of the awards. The growth and the evolution of this brand have been noteworthy as it unremittingly seeks for innovative platforms and avenues to consistently project the Nigerian entertainment industry with its foreign counter parts.
Soundcity TV the mother brand of SMVA is one of the brands of Consolidated Media Associates, a company that has a special focus in producing and syndicating programs across Nigeria. Soundcity TV is the first of it’s kind in Nigeria and has now become a national favourite and a house hold brand name. It has been positioned as a dedicated 24hr music channel who gives the Nigerian artiste a platform of projecting their image, while also contributing positively to the Nigerian music industry.
Speaking with the Executive Producer of SMVA and the MD/C.E.O, Consilidated Media Associates Mr Tajudeen Adepetu who has successfully turned and achieved a 360 degrees turn around in the Nigerian Entertainment industry. He gave us an insight to the birth, growth and maturity of the SMVA awards.
SMVA is an award used to reward excellence in the art of creativity of production videos, and the origin or the basis for which SMVA was born to give a platform and equal opportunities to the various talents that Nigeria has recorded over the years. Giving to the society and encouraging the youth has always been my motivating factor says Adepetu fondly called TJ who veered into the music industry as a radio jingle producer and had the opportunity of meeting a lot of upcoming and aspiring artiste seeking for platforms to showcase their talents, and the idea to provide assistance to burdened creative talents which will transcend to a formidable platform the industry will need 10 years down the drain. The business aspect came in later.
The first SMVA was a mind blowing event which was described as a dream come true for the organizers received world wide acceptance by the key players in the entertainment industry and brand acceptance by the general public, with such acceptance it’s no surprise that after 3 years the SMVA brand is still a formidable brand.
It was hosted by Nigerian pop star D’banj and had notable city-diva Ashionye co-host it. The experience was unique on all fronts. The event was transmitted live to over a 100 million viewer’s African audience. The red carpet was full of glitz, pomp and pageantry. It was a night to be remembered for a long time. The event had several international artistes perform. American hip hop star Nas performed and also presented an award to Ill Bliss as the Best Hip Hop Video winner. South Africa’s popular band Freshlyground was also in-town for a spell bounding performance. Tic Tac flew in from Ghana and of course we had performances from D’banj and the Mohits crew, Psquare and more.

~Introducing Sista Soul.....Ear Drum Therapy~
Sistasoul, real names Veronny Okwei Odili was born in the sprawling city of Lagos in November 1984, to a Rastafarian father and a children rights activist mother.
She attributes her love for music from her early days to the influences of renowned musical greats like Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Diana Ross, Ella Fitzgerald, King Sunny Ade, James Brown, Sade, Marvin Gaye, Haruna Ishola, to mention a few.
Sistasoul, Asides being a solo musician, also doubles as the lead female vocalist of Paris/West African Jazz group, AYETORO under the musical directions of renowned pianist and Fela’s godson, Funsho Ogundipe.
Her love for soul and acoustic music, led her to learning the guitar in her teenage years, complimenting her rich and husky voice.
Also a poet, Sistasoul started gaining recognition when her poem. ‘Change’ was featured in The Guardian newspaper. ~The Tosyn Bucknor TopTen: September edition~
So why did this list come so late?
Because it was so difficult to make.
First off, now the song lines get blurred, in the sense of placing when a song was released officially, when i heard it first, and if a song i heard on the 31st of September but which had as much effect on me as one that i listened to throughout September can both be on this list... Favourite songs of September.
Well, by the third time i got my dm prompt to send this in, i realised being 'Monk' would not get me anywhere. I stopped obsessing, and got to picking!
1. I No Go Lose My Head (Lamboghini feat. Naija All Stars)
Elections and Crime are big themes to work around these days for our conscious, and not so concious-but-hey-it-cant-hurt-to-pretend-to-be artistes these days, and i will let you decide who is real and who is faking it, but Lamboghini's 'Say No To Crime' effort with guest artistes ranging from the Rooftop MCs to Nikki Laoye and Olamide has such a catchy hook that all it takes is one listen!
I like the video as well by the way. Shout out to Ak One
2. Love Always Wins (Ibiyemi)
I have not yet heard an Ibiyemi song i have not liked. From 'Can You Love Me' to 'Dont Leave Me', to all the songs on the album.
As i played this one 'Love Always Wins' which just reminds me of one of my favourite artistes for the upteenth time on the show, my colleague said, "This is your favourite track on the album right", and i said, "For now". Like all good albums, Ibiyemi's own has songs that will jump at you from time to time and at different times, and demand your attention.
For now, 'Love Always Wins' can take up all my time, and all the repeats a c.d is allowed to have till it scratches.
3. Nothing On You (Pope's try)
When i am allowed to include one or two favourite international tracks, maybe the original version of this song by B.O.B feat. Bruno Mars wouid make it to the list, but the good thing is, Pope's version which has Shaydee on the hook is really really nice!
i also like how Shaydee keeps the chorus original, but then does his own runs towards the end. I liked the lines a lot.
4. Kele Kele Love (Tiwa Savage)
Tiwa Savage has fans. These fans may be short and wear glasses and own blogs where they dedicate posts to Tiwa Savage. I do not know about these people, but i do know that this song is such a female anthem that every girl should listen, cram, play, and sing at karaoke.
5. Over/Him (Lami)
If you do have not listened to Lami's album yet, try it today. Or tomorrow. But please try it. Because it 'listens' well. As i said above, different songs will jump at you from time to time on a good album, and i have now moved on from 'Kaleidoscope' and 'Semi' to 'over' and 'Him'.
'Him' i first loved when i saw her perform but only began my love affair with it again, and 'over' i have now been listening to over and over again (pardon the cheese), because the video just came out!
6. Walk Away (Ese Peters)
I will be patient.
If i do not find that patience, i will do something silly like start a record label just so i can sign Ese Peters.
That he is still unsigned remains a mystery to me.
Anyways, 'Walk Away' is a beautiful slow song and haunting lyrics.
7. Expressions (Irin Ajo) (T.W.O)
The 'T.W.O Legit' has different sounds scattered through it. I found this song at number 8 and i almost did not listen to any other song.
It is a folk song, simple in its delivery, powerful with its message, with Wunmi's voice making magic.
Im good. Im sold. Im listening again.
8. 10 over 10 (Naeto C)
Hold on! We all used to say 'Shikena' before now? But see Naeto C o, he has taken it over and made it his. Like he did with 'Kini Big Deal', and even the caps he wears.
Yes, Naeto C always manages to take popular things and make them culture. And he does this with catchy hooks and interesting verses.
One question though, is Naeto really the only MC with an MSC?
9. Korrect (Remix) (Pheroshwuz feat. Terry tha Rapman and Maytronomy)
I once tweeted that some rappers make you want to learn how to rap. And i once tweeted that Maytronomy is one of these rappers.
So we have Maytronomy.
I once tweeted that Terry tha Rapman's album is one album i am definitely listening out for. That i am sure of. Some albums you know will come out, and you think, okay, i may get it. But some albums, you know if you had to queue at a record store to ensure you got one of the first copies, get an autograph, and listen with your discman because you cannot be bothered to first rip then transfer.
So we have Terry tha Rapman.
Phero once did a drop for my show. I remember each line. And what i remember more than the lines, was the delivery. And something about his voice.... There's something about his voice....
So we have Pheroshwuz
Put them together on the remix of an original that is already so good, and what do you get- well, korrect.
10. Follow Follow (Gaise)
Funny. Probing. Different.
