~Exclusive Interview With D'Crow: As He Plans To Drop Mixtape~

Fast and rising rapper D’Crow has been in our faces all year long. From dropping a debut album to tearing up a whole bunch of blogs with lead singles featuring renowned producer OJB Jezreel and R&B specialist C-Mion, this hip-hop’s poster boy has been buzzing!
He now gears up to release a mixtape titled “UNCAGED” he’s been working on for a couple of months. We were able to sit him down during one of his sessions and he was delighted to grant us an exclusive interview:

RV: Why are you dropping a mixtape and not working on a follow up album to the debut “The Truth”?

D’Crow: Well, there are multiple reasons for dropping this mixtape; some issues I want to address, things I wanna say, styles I wanna experiment with. Basically, I couldn’t do that on my debut album because of the saleability, theme content and arrangement.

RV: So the title “UNCAGED”, how did you come about it and is that the driving force behind the whole mixtape?

D’Crow: It all started on a flight back to Lagos, I was bored and was going through my music collection to listen to some music when I came across Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers Lp”. “The Way I Am” was my fav track off the album. I got back to Gidi, got the instrumental from my DJ friend and recorded over it then a friend of mine shot a video for it.  UNCAGED” was a result of inner liberation, exorcising my mental......

RV: You said you wanna address issues; will you be talking about your relationship with Knight House and what is it you will be saying?

D’Crow: Yes I will be clearing out the rumours...wait till the mixtape drops.

RV: Who’s on the mixtape, production?

D’Crow: I got cameos from Teeto Ceemos, producer extraordinaire EX-O, M-Flow, Big T, Osagz and US buzzing rapper Kemizt. Most songs are remixes of popular rap songs, some are freestyles.

I enlisted the help of my producer BLAZON and also worked with my friend Ex-O on the recording and basically certifying the materials good for true hip hop lovers to listen to, my good friend DJ X-el hosted the mixtape just like the way things were done back in the days where it was the DJ and MC that used to run things.

RV: So when is it dropping?

D’Crow: A release date will soon be set.

~Ultima Studios Release Statement Following Fire Outbreak~

Ultima Studios has released a statement following the fire that burnt down the studio that puts together the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and MTN Project Fame West Africa show. It goes thus:

"In spite of the mysterious fire that ravaged Ultima Studios on Sunday August 22, 2010, the company has stated that their two currently running productions WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? and MTN PROJECT FAME WEST AFRICA season 3 would continue as scheduled.
A recording for WWTBAM had just ended, when crew members noticed a minor fire, late Sunday. But what started as a little ball soon turned into huge flames as extinguishers failed to contain the fire.
Staff and contestants who were housed in the Academy were promptly evacuated. There were neither injuries nor lives lost. However, both the studios for WWTBAM and MTN Project Fame West Africa were badly hit and invaluable equipment lost to the inferno.
Ultima CEO, Femi Ayeni, told reporters on the site, Sunday, “although the incident is catastrophic and the loss shattering, we’re grateful to God that no lives were lost. The contestants are safe and we are confident that the show will go on, and in no time at all we will be back on air so keep watching.”
Early visitors to the site included MTN’s GM Consumer Marketing, Kola Oyeyemi. MTN, Nigeria’s largest telecoms company, is the sole sponsor for WWTBAM and the title sponsors for Project Fame.  “This is a monumental disaster. We can’t even begin to comprehend the personal, emotional and material loss. But in all we thank God that no lives were lost. MTN is committed to enriching lives through our different services, properties and initiatives and we are already discussing with our partners at Ultima on how to make sure this tragedy does not distract us”.
Ultima is determined to take this incident in its stride and plans are on to return to full and enhanced production of WWTBAM and PFWA."

~Miss Universe: Mexico's 22 Year Old Jimena Navarrete~

From flags to Facebook, 22-year-old Jimena Navarrete has quickly made it clear what she plans to promote as the world's newest Miss Universe — her home country of Mexico.
"I want the whole world to know about my country and my people," the Guadalajara native said after beating 82 competitors for global bragging rights at the pageant in Las Vegas.
"I imagine that they're all going crazy in Mexico right now," she said through an interpreter. "I'm extremely proud and I'm sure they're very proud, too."
She donned a flowing red dress, strutted confidently in a violet bikini, and said onstage that the Internet is indispensable and requires parents to impart family values.
The model-turned pageant queen then posed for pictures with a Mexican flag and Mexico's last Miss Universe as congratulations from her countrymen came pouring in.
"Her triumph is a source of pride and satisfaction for all Mexicans, who see in her the fruits of perseverance," Mexican President Felipe Calderon said in a statement. Immediately after her win, Calderon said on Twitter that her victory would help Mexico's image as a country.
"We won, long live Mexico!" Navarrete said on her fan page on Facebook, spurring 478 "likes" and 218 comments in about one hour.
She was cheered by Spanish-speaking reporters clamoring to talk with her after the pageant, and twice answered questions about Arizona's recent immigration law.
"Every country has the right to impose and enact their laws," she said, wearing her new sash and sparkling tiara. "But I tell you that all the Mexicans and the Latins that are living here in the United States are hardworking people — people who want to improve on their quality of life."
The Miss Universe pageant is known for grabbing headlines — and Navarrete appears ready to make her mark.
She's Mexico's second Miss Universe. Lupita Jones — Navarrete's national pageant director — won in 1991. Navarrete has been modeling since she was 15 and came to Miss Universe after winning for Jalisco, then Mexico, in the country's Nuestra Belleza pageant.
Navarrete replaces Miss Universe 2009 Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela. She also spoiled a bid by Miss Venezuela Marelisa Gibson from giving the South American country a third consecutive victory. Neither Gibson nor Miss USA Rima Fakih made the top 15 finalists.
With fans in some 190 countries watching on television and keeping tabs on social networks, Navarrete and her competitors introduced themselves while wearing over-the-top national costumes. They then danced in silver and black dresses for the show's opening number before the last 15 finalists were announced.
The final 15 walked in swimsuits while Cirque du Soleil musicians played Elvis Presley songs including "Viva Las Vegas." The last 10 impressed in their gowns while John Legend and the Roots played a soulful medley including "Save Room."
By the end of the show, seven of the top 10 trending topics on Twitter had to do with the pageant, its contestants, its judges or owner Donald Trump. The mogul co-owns the pageant with TV network NBC.
The show was without any major gaffes, except for Miss Philippines' answer when asked what her biggest mistake in life was and how she fixed it.
"In my 22 years of existence, I can say there is nothing major," Venus Raj said.
Before the pageant, Raj was rated among the top contestants in an online poll on the pageant's website. She finished in fifth place.
Asked by Olympic gold-medal figure skater Evan Lysacek how she felt about unsupervised Internet use, Navarrete said the Internet is important.
"I do believe that Internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time," she said through an interpreter. "We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family."
Lysacek was one of this year's nine celebrity judges. The others were actresses Jane Seymour and Chynna Phillips; actors Chazz Palminteri and William Baldwin; magician Criss Angel; MSNBC anchor Tamron Hall; drummer Sheila E.; and supermodel Niki Taylor.
Navarrete won a package of prizes including an undisclosed salary, a luxury New York apartment with living expenses, a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy with housing after her reign, plus jewelry, clothes and shoes fit for a beauty champion.
Campbell won the Miss Congeniality Universe award. Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul won Miss Photogenic Universe and a second award for having the best national costume.
First runner-up was Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, while second runner-up was Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell.
Fakih, a 24-year-old Lebanese immigrant from Dearborn, Mich., spurred celebrations among Arab-Americans when she won Miss USA. Pageant records aren't detailed enough to show whether Fakih is the first Arab-American, Muslim or immigrant to win Miss USA.
Miss USA has not been named Miss Universe since Brook Lee won the title in 1997.

~Music: KEL "Love" ft M.I &O.C~

Came across this from Kel's debut album. Nice medley. Listen and tell us what you think

~Music: Introducing Delly B....The Proud Nigerian~

RV: Please introduce yourself
Delly B: My Name is Adeola Adediran AKA Delly B AKA Delly BABA !! I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and currently live and work in Nigeria! I speak Yoruba fluently, as well as a little Igbo and Hausa.

RV: So how did you get the name Delly B?
Delly B: I actually got the Name Delly from so many people mispronouncing Deola! So many of my American friends pounced it Della and then in College people randomly started calling me Delly! So the name Delly has just stuck with me.

RV: Education?
Delly B: I graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications with an emphasis in Marketing (2006), as well as a Master of Science Degree in Human resources Development (2008).

RV: Nice degrees. What has made you venture into the art of music making?
Delly B: I have always wanted to be involved in the entertainment industry. From 2002-2007, I had my own television show on Public Access Television on various stations in the US!    The Adeola Adediran show was a reality based comedy. The show focused on people's reactions to hilarious situations. The show was filmed on location in Terre Haute, Indiana. The show was aired on mtvU and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in July 2007!

RV: So when did the music making really kick off?
Delly B: I started writing music in 2008! My first song was Shakara, which was basically a detailed account of how some girls tried to play me in Nigeria!  After seeing how people responded to Shakara, I begin to take music more seriously and started developing my skills!

Listen to "Feeling Gbesh" Rmx ft MidWest

RV: What's the current status, any record deal?
Delly B: I am currently unsigned by any record label, but have managed to shoot a video as well as produce several hit tracks!  I am still working towards finishing my first Album, as well as getting signed to a label!

As we await the release of the most anticipated rap album of 2010 from one of the most sought after rappers, HHWA winner Terry da Rapman hits us with a freestyle off Young Money's "Roger that" beat.

News reaching us say that Terry was in the studio listening to a track he recorded with Kefee when the original young money track bleeped from a mobile phone. In his own words "Men, put that phone on vibrate, in fact gimmie that beat, lemme kill it once and for all".

Scribbling a few things on a tissue paper, he stepped in the booth and delivered a couple of bars...even with a cold he had been struggling with.

There is also a wallpaper for free download..

~The Exclusive Interview: Tito da Fire~

RV: The timing of your return to the big stage, after Gent2men's Smash "Majekaja" in 2003, aren't you afraid things have changed? Newer cats holding down the industry?
Tito: Basically an artiste is scared when his artistry is time-based, you know, faddish, then he has reason to fear cos his sound will lose touch especially because the listening public has short listening span, always reaching for freshness, but Gent2Men did that song for posterity..20-30yrs down people are still vibing to it. Yeah industry has changed, but good music hasn't changed...good music is timeless. i always aim at making music that will outlive me.

RV: You and your brother, Gent2Men are not Up-coming artistes, you've held sway for years, what kept your sound relevant?
Tito: passion for life, music, enjoying every moment, u know..living in the moment, you never know time's passing

RV: Some On-air personalities like Darey Art Alade, B.O.U.Q.U.I and a few international counterparts have left Radio for music, are u going to be around radio or TV as a presenter/host for long?
Tito: Considering the fact that music love came first, wow...this is hard, i cant say i will leave radio or TV,cos i don't know for sure.

RV: You havent made up your mind..
Tito: I do know that they compliment, on radio u play music..it kinda sharpens ur artistic ear and appreciation for good music, but i totally love both...kinda like am in love with two beautiful ladies..lol

RV: How do u balance? Like serving two masters, doesn't one suffer?
Tito: (laughter) men, truth is one guy gets the butt, its hard fun...cos i enjoy the duet...haha, ok this is how i strike a balance, i work up a schedule with my team , you know, like I'm gonna do this, you take care of that..and we meet later and sync runs..kinda fun

RV: Some people confuse your songs and voice for 2Face's, like on your track YES O with OJB and your latest single Graduation Day, I'll quote a fan on Youtube as saying "i see you wrote 2face in your tag. dude sound like 2face, his song is on point. nice beat, good delivery, enjoyable". How do you feel?
Tito: Its a compliment hearing that, he's an incredible vocalist and artiste, I was talking with 2face a while back and discussion came up on about expression in songs, and we said if you sing about tears, then lets hear it in ur voice. .but i avoid listening to artistes i love when am recording a song or album...cos its hard not to reflect a lil something in their style. my major influence was Daniel Wilson, he trained Mike, my brother and i in 1997, thats when i started singing in studio.

RV: Lots of buzz about Graduation day, is it your graduation from school or an album Title?
Tito: Graduation Day is me on the day that's my happiest, and at the same time otherwise, its when the list is out and the back benchers look for their names..some find it,some don't.some laugh some frown..its a true life experience of a great person who gets carried away by the glitz..its coincidentally my album title.

RV: You had an all star line up, tell us about the video shoot?
Tito: Everyone kinda relates with the theme 'graduation day', when i asked Baba keke Ogungbe to feature, he liked the idea, Omobaba heard the song and said, what date are u shooting, Eedris Abdulkareem, Jaywon, Dj Humility, Neptune, Teddy ,Boombastic all embraced it ...thats how we shot.

RV: When do we expect the album and the video? any collaborations?
Tito: The video..pretty soon, the album sometime this year, collaborations, I've got DaGrin on "STOP IT", Zara on "ILE TI MO", M.I on "PRO 2 PRO",OJB, BlahkStone, and Ill Bliss

RV: Who produced the "Graduation Day" track and other cuts on your album?
Tito: I produced "Graduation Day" and five others. Ojb, Ralph ,O'black did other tracks.

RV: Rumours have it that you fell out with ARTQUAKE over a song u wrote, produced and gave them, and they later heard it on radio, as recorded by you, whats the true position?
Tito: It's true i wrote and produced "FIRE FIRE" and mailed it to ADEX, he liked the chorus and told me he was writing his verse, however after a long while i heard nothing from him, then i called him and he said he had forgotten.

RV: That he had the song with him?
Tito: Well around that time i read his newspaper interview where he said they(ARTQUAKE ) don't like collaborations, then that leaves me wondering why i wasn't told, and people kept coming to my studio asking why i didn't record the song..soon after i recorded it for myself.

RV: No hard feelings?
Tito: Not that i can see, i did my best.

RV: any Gent2men collaboration on Graduation Day album?
Tito: yes, a remix of that classic. plus am a product of Gent2men entertainment, am signed to G2m. Till i graduate..lol

~Tillaman: Fori Fori~

We've listened and we love it...listen and enjoy; Tillaman does what he does best!

,

~The Tosyn Bucknor TopTen~

So it gets harder to actually make this list. New music comes out every day, and the ear that enjoys all forms and genres of music,is given a treat.
But! Some songs just stay on repeat, and thats how they make it to this list!

Vector: I LOVE YOU NIGERIA
Ile... Ile...
There is something about the hook of this song that is haunting. And as we inch closer to our fiftieth, the song seems apt.
This is a love song for Nigeria, and in these days of hate, disbelief, fears and distrust, it is nice to listen to a song of hope and love.
Plus, Vector is just really good!

Ese Peters: WETIN I GO DO
'she says she wants to fly...'
Ese is just... He kind of leaves me speechless but let me see how many words i can string together for this!
His voice is soothing, i think therein lies the appeal. And his lyrics are so open and easy to relate to.
The chorus for Wetin i Go Do is so catchy, i dare anyone to listen once and not sing along!

Zara: ABOKO KU
There is this sound Zara likes to make on all her tracks, and everytime i think of this song, the sound comes to mind!
You will probably have to listen a lot of times to know what she is actually saying, and even then you'd have to take it chorus first, then verse, then hook. But i like the song, and the way she sings it.

Mo Cheddah: KO MA ROLL
Loke! Loke!
Mo Cheddah is one of those gifted artistes who can do it all. And Ko Ma Roll takes us away from the Mo Cheddah of 'If You Want Me' to a vibier song
Fans of the show on radio like it a lot as well, i get a lot of requests for it.

Hakym: FORMULAR
Artiste-Producers sometimes have to choose. But Hakym may not have to. The producing he does well. As much as the singing itself
On 'Formular'he brings in the hook wizkid, Wizkid, and they give us an easy to sing and dance to song
Hakym has got the formular, now we want more!

9ice versus Da Grin: LONI NI
I suppose if 9ice said 'la la la'on a song, id still love it, but thankfully, this song is a justified hit.
Once again, this is a 'street' song, strictly for parties, partying and those who love them! The lyrics tell of someone who isnt about to waste his life thinking and stressing, and today ehn, (today na today, not tomorrow), drinks are assured!
And Da Grin raps on the beat effortlessly.
I listened to this song for so long (sometimes ten times back to back), that my mother started singing along, and i even created a treatment for the video in my head!

Skales: BE MINE
First time i heard Skales, it was on a song where he declared he was heading for a grammy.
And then i started listening out for him, and going for shows where he was blled to perform.
He sounded interesting, sincere, like he truly had something to say.
'Be Mine' has an interesting proposition for the ladies, or at least, a special lady. He's doing all he can to give her all she wants because she has to be his.
I fear a lot of ladies will personalise this song

Teeto: YOU'RE NOT MY GIRL
Teeeeeeeto!
Probably the finest rapper i know. And no, i don't mean the rhymes. Thank you
Luckily for us, Teeto isnt just a handsome face, he is also great with freestyles and as he has shown with his mixtape, isnt afraid to be a little not nice.
And Ýoure Not My Girl, isnt nice! But i can't help it, i want mooooore!
Teeto, Beazy and Ghetto P break hearts when they non-too-gently inform us exactly what they want. And it isnt a picket fence with 2.4 children i can tell you

M.I feat. Tu Face:  NOBODY
If nobody talks about you, then you are nobody...
Tu Face sings this and it comes across as sincere, he has afterall, been the victim of seven years of bad press (figuratively). And M.I's success has come with a prize- he is now the target of a lot of MCs
So it is not surprising that this song talks about keeping your head up, no matter what.
Sadly, this song hasn't been properly pushed, and some people even assume it's a tu face song (cue look of surprise when it is not on the N1000 album!), but if you can find it, enjoy!

Tu Face: ONLY ME
The secret to truly enjoying this song, is to listen and discover this song in phases
With every listen there is something else to love, another lesson to learn, and a new smile to be found.
My current addiction is the 'r's in the second verse. Listen to how Tu Face sings the second verse. #thankmenow

And there you have it folks!
The ten songs that i had on repeat in July!
I know August' list will be tough to compile but i have to go now, 'labalaba' is playing!
