~Timi Is Back!! With New Singles After Six Years In Limbo~

Born in the eighties, Timi Da Black one (real name Dr Timileyin Akinmuda) was a member of Da Trybe, the hip-hop collective responsible for that smash hit of the early 2k’s ‘Oya’ whose hook was actually written and performed by him. He had caught the eye of Eldee the Don who was initially skeptical about signing on a medical student but upon seeing Timi’s star potential at a campus show had a re –think of his previous decision and promptly scooped the budding rapper up. Under the Trybe records imprint, Timi would score major hits of his own with ‘Na Flash’ and ‘Lem Tight’ but wasn’t able to complete his album project before Eldee left for the states. Using his meager resources and limited connects he would complete an album worth of material that would become Na Flash the Album. Rigors of getting a medical degree would take their toll and coupled with pressures and threats from his professors in school, Timi would have no choice but to hold off any ideas of a career in music till further notice. Now a full fledged dentist Timi feels the time is right to take another stab at his passion: Music. Armed with two new singles: ‘the very personal ‘Where you dey?’  which serves to mark his return – so I say yeah, I been dey hibernate/ I know e don tey but now I don wake as well as silence the voice of the dissenters -where you been dey when I been dey here/ yeah I know where una dey day-care all over a mellow beat from ace producer Sosick and the percussion led hilarious ode to the female derriere’ ……. Police’ produced by IKON, giving fresh life to a style perfected by  the trybe/ trybesmen , Timi is set to  take the music bull by the horns once again. Work is already underway on a yet to be titled album scheduled for release in the later part of the year.

~Ex Beauty Queen and Buzzing Rapper Munachi Abi Signs With RMG~

Munachi Abii, former beauty queen (MBGN 2007), signs to The RMG Company as a solo rap artiste. Over the last couple of years 'Muna' has expressed her intention to throw her tiara into the rap game, with appearances and features on songs by other artistes' like Banky W, Ikechukwu (Killz), Jesse Jagz and Waje. Now she has started recording her yet untitled debut album due out early next year and has just recorded a song called Pop Sugar with another RMG artiste Michael Word (the song is produced by Sarz).
Her rap style is so eclectic and 'free range' that many who only see her as a pretty face will be pleasantly surprised (or shocked). Muna (AKA "Baby Rella") will record her album with producers in Nigeria, the UK/Europe, and in the United States where she hopes to pursue her other entertainment interest as well.

~Hype: Timix...heading for the top~

Born in the UK, bred in the streets of Naija, Raised by a single mother, AJAYI OLUWATIMILEHIN aka TIMIX found Music and Arts as his first love. The likes of Shaggy and late Micheal Jackson where his role models at the tender age of five. Triumphed through elementary and secondary school in Lagos and is presently undergoing his A-levels. At age 11, TIMIX had found a more expressive form of music other than his flair for singing, he found RAP. Inspired by Slim Shady (Eminem) and Lupe Fiasco, there seems to be a mixed trend in his delivery - simply original and creative. What one would call a normal life hadn't always been the case for this 17 year-old. So, as much as possible, his music and art tend to convey true feelings and experiences. As the only child, composing, listening and analyzing good music has always been his own way of giving back to the society that raised and schooled him to this stage; his first ever song was written at age 12. Professionally kicked-off his musical career in 2009 after being introduced to Smyl (Producer) and the MicWorx family and his manager Omonblanks (BLANK CREATION ENT)

~Hype: Chykay...Baby making music~

Born Chike Nosa Agada to Nigerian Funk legend Harry Mosco and Edugie Lawal-Osula, Chykay pronounced /chi-kay/, is an R&B singer/songwriter. His dad is famous for the chart-topping hits: “Country Boy”, “Sugar Cane Baby” and “Happy Birthday”. So as you can imagine, he served as a role model for his son.
In his young teenage years, he unveiled his talent in Trinity College when he was asked to give a ‘special number’ and to his surprise at the end of it, he got nothing but compliments and applause. That encouragement made him to work extensively on his music. That is, writing songs for people, working alongside aspiring artists such as Teeto ceemos, phizzle, Beazy, L (T.J. Stattz), Playbach, Falz, 2Slick, Uzzy and the list goes on. One of his songs, “I Just Wanna” has become a ‘local hit’ with airplay (on a few radio stations), accessibility on the internet, amongst friends, family and fans (especially in Nigeria and England). Everyone is familiar with the lyrics when he goes out performing at fashion shows, private parties and clubs. With several songs recorded, Chykay has been put in the ears of today’s hit-makers. His songs such as “Fly Low Flex” and “Love wan tin tin” have been appealing to majority of people. Although his road to success is long, for an artist in his own league, Chykay has what it takes to being the next-rated recording artist.
His songs are very appealing and with a voice like his, he’s bound to go far. This is definitely one artist to watch out for now and in the upcoming years.

Nice one from eLDee da Don, this is called "One Day" off his "Is it Your Money" Mixtape.

~Exclusive: Rogueman Is Now Ain Mosni~

The Birth of Ain Mosni

Ain Mosni means to be alert or to be on top of things and most importantly to be awake. You’ll get a better understanding of the name if you spell it backwards. The official motto is #Stop Sleeping!
Ain Mosni is currently signed to his own Production company called WakeUp Music. Home to potential song writers and artists interested in making exceptional music. He is currently in the United Kingdom on music business.
 Where is Rogueman?
That’s a good question. He has taken the back seat and is allowing Mosni get some shine! The Rogueman chapter is closed, the new chapter reads Ain Mosni.
On a business side of things the name Rogueman was imposing, threatening. It put that aura of “approach me and get knocked the f**k out”. Even rappers were scared to get on a track with Rogue, true story. Plus, I’m trying to make it easier for my girl so when she’s asked ‘what’s his name? she doesn’t have to say Rogue. Lol  Rogueman will only be summoned in times of security, like when another MC needs a lyrical a** whooping.
 How nice is Ain Mosni?
Ain Mosni’s first official listen is a freestyle called ‘The Birth of Ain Mosni’ on a track produced by Kid Konnect. Some responses from the track indicate that Ain Mosni is going to war with the music industry with a few shots at some people here and there. My response to that is I just analysed the industry as I see it and also how millions of others see it. Nothing to be mad at, you sensitive children! More updates concerning music from Ain Mosni can be received via Twitter @yousaywetin

~5 REASONS WHY Mo’CHEDDAH WILL MAKE IT BIG~

The Nigerian entertainment scene has been buzzing with a lot of urban female artistes for some period now. Remember when the time when the only female artistes we had were rocking Gospel/Inspirational songs...yea boring.
We will be focusing our attention on one budding and fast rising femcee (female emcee)/singer. Her name is Mo’Cheddah. Rising from the stables of emerging Music Power House Knighthouse, Mo’Cheddah is worth this exposĂ©. So we analyse and give you 5 reasons why she’ll do big in this industry, beyond the hype and when she drops her forthcoming album “Celebrity Franchise”.

1.       She’s Just 19! She’s Got Age on Her Side: At such a young age, Mo’cheddah has already started garnering experience (musically that is...). With her delivery, finesse and strong character on the mic, it can only get better for lil’ Mo as time goes on.

2.       She Holds Down Both Pop And Hiphop Markets: Mo’cheddah seems to cover both Pop and Hiphop genres with her style of music. So far she has managed to infuse her style in such a way that lovers of both genre like her music. Yes she sings and raps (we don’t wanna know if she’s got a ghost writer). Did I hear you say her hiphop isn’t deep enough? Yea true, but if you call what Nicki Minaj and Travis McCoy do hiphop, then Q.E.D! J

3.       Knighthouse:  I consider this peops as one hell of a serious crew. They are always in the news for bringing new innovations to the entertainment scene. As earlier stated, they are responsible for bringing out Mo’Cheddah, serve as her management and production crew cameos et al. So far with their help, she has featured in several songs and videos and what have you. If this continues, the future of their signee is quite bright.

4.       She Can Actually Sing: Unlike most Nigerian female singers (yea, but for the sake of not comparing I won’t mention names) Mo’Cheddah can sing, scratch that she can croon and adlib too, beyond the auto-tune and voice vocoder she still sounds appealing. So when the phase of auto-tune and all the silly conforming sound passes, she’ll still be doing well.

5.       Features and Cameo Appearances: Even in an early and short career, Mo’Cheddah’s roaster of guest appearances is quite a lot. From legendary Modenine, to Terry da Rapman, Da Suspect, Hi Beezle and many more, she’s been representing real good. Maybe she’s got good PR or maybe she’s actually good....

"Sharp sharp tell me what's your P, when my jam comes up, that's my Q (cue)/and the centre of the dance floor is where I R (are), so I show finesse with no B.S"(PQRS)...Mo’Cheddah.
We’ll be watching........

~Kel Gets Kicked Off Jesse Jagz Video Shoot~

Chocolate City's Jesse Jagz had his video shot some weeks ago and was directed by CAPITAL boss, Clarence Peters. Former Capital Hill records artiste rapper Kel was around for the video but was kicked off the video set.
Apparently, things are still not still going well with both parties. CAPITAL released a statement some months ago about Kel owing them about 11 million naira and if we recall, Kel never had an album launch for her album "The Investment".We'll update yall on the story.

~Hype: Wurdplay...Have you lost for words~

ABOUT WURD PLAY:
First perspective from a third person point of view, I personally will describe Wurd Play as a full package of “Natural Intelligence” poised by the soul concept of Art. A passion which drives me into a world of exploring the many areas, aspects & realms of extreme imaginations sourced from inspirations in this “Divine Hustle”.
Hip hop is a culture, if any other thing, its my way of life (it is what it is, which is what im about & all im about).I express this through my music & Drawings, catch me every other day writing to a beat, working in the studio or freestyling in my Hood but when im not Im sketching up a comic, story-board or just some “Way-Up” imagination running through my brain veins…

~Interview: Fazillion; 101% REALNESS~

RV: What intrigued you into the whole hip-hop thingy?

BIG FAZ
: I first came across Hip-Hop in 1994 officially when my elder sister bought me a source Magazine that had Gangstarr ( R.I.P Guru ) on the cover, and since then i have been hooked to the genre of Music known as Hip-Hop.But i officially started writing Rhymes in 1997, in High School in Jos, then i was called Busta Faz....My First Studio Experience was in 2003,after High School..Plus One was the First Producer to record my first Single "I Gat Skills" (Produced By Soulution.)

RV: Where social values have hip-hop imparted in your life?

BIG FAZ: A lot of people do not understand how Educative Hip-Hop is...I had Never been to New York before i knew the names of all the Boroughs in New York, all because of Hip-Hop.I learnt so much since i started Listening To Hip-Hop,..Hip-Hop also Made Me Conscious of the Civil Rights Movement, and the Troubles and Tribulations of the Black people in America at that time.Hip-Hop also made me conscious and Determined, when i heard songs like "Dont Believe the Hype"-Public Enemy ,"Looking at the Front Door"- Main Source , and Ethnic By Afrikka Bambatta , they just charged me up, and spurred me.

RV: What’s your take on hip-hop in Nigeria right from them “Junior & Pretty” days?

BIG FAZ: Well i watched the Evolution of Hip-Hop in Nigeria , from the days of Junoir and Pretty , Alex O , Remedies , Swat Root, Trybesmen till this present Day , of the Choc Boys and Knight-Houses, and I must say that we are Growing at an Electrifying Pace, but the best is yet to come, thats what i think.

RV
: Your mixtape “Smoke Sessions Vol. I” dropped some weeks ago; word on the street is that you went real hard on it. Aren’t you bothered about conforming a little for commercial purposes?

BIG FAZ: Actually i Did not Go all hard on the Mixtape...I have songs like "I love You" Feat Frenchie Faia , and Wanna Dance feat Mz Shugz . They are Both Mainstream Songs , I also understand the Importance of commercial Joints to the Pocket of an Artiste ,so i am not against it, and my Debut Album is Gonna have a few Mainstream Songs as well..but my own style of Rap , is Mainly RAW and Revolutionary., hence Those are the calibre of Songs that are going to be on my Album..

RV: Talking about your mixtape, what was the experience working with Producer Teck-Zilla

BIG FAZ: Teck-Zilla aka Mr Stay Sharp in My opinion , is one Producer that every Hip-Hop artiste in Nigeria, should Aspire to Work with.. I see it as A blessing That he Hosted My Mixtape..I made a trip to His Audio Lab in London , and he sampled my songs ,Liked what he heard and threw me in the Booth,...we recorded a couple of Freestyles, that Made the Mixtape , and I asked Him Humbly to Host my Mixtape, and he Affirmed ...I had a Blissful time working with Teck Man , and we Have a couple of things in the works, so watch this space...Shouts Out to Str8Buttah..

RV: In the US, Hip-hop has syndicated with sports, movies et al. Why hasn’t been that successful so far in Nigeria?

BIG FAZ: If you Listen to My "Problematic Freestyle" on My mixtape , i said that Nigerian Hip-Hop is almost in Its Final stages of conception , and i Buttress that stance, the situation of things in Nigerian Hip-Hop is drastically Improving I Must Say..

RV: Rap is blowing up in Nigeria, but there seems to be issues with “keeping it real” Vs “Selling out”. Any insights on this?

BIG FAZ: I Believe That emcees should keep it Real, and Keeping it Real involves Feeding your Family, so if you are Solely A rapper, you have to sell, and make Viable Music, that is Marketable in your region ..Your Music should be a reflection of yourself, so if you dont have money to afford a Benz 230, stop rapping about Phantom and Rolls Royce.

RV: Common, Mos Def, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, these are a few rappers that have pitched their tents in Holly Wood. Which Nigerian rappers do you think would fair well in Nolly Wood?

BIG FAZ
: im totally in support  of art expression, and if you have acting skills why not?? I used to act in High school, and i might go into that, because i write movie scripts on the side..i think Ruggedman , MI , Jesse Jagz and Sauce Kid would make Excellent Actors.

RV: I know you are gonna have a strong opinion on the just concluded Hip-Hop World Awards...

BIG FAZ: I Have always had problems with vote based awards , because suprises are bound to spring up.but then I have never respected the Credibility of Hip-Hop worlds Awards..

RV: Which Divas (music, nollywood, oap, et al) in Nigeria are you feeling?

BIG FAZ: I love Airis , Zara , Tiwa Savage , Christine Ben Ameh, Josephine Silla, Asa, Blaise, Amaka of Thorobreds, and Pee Lola

As For NollyWood, i really am feeling Bimbo Akintola i just Love her...Shes Simply Amazing..

DOWNLOAD BIG FAZ MIXTAPE HERE

~The Tosyn Bucknor Top Ten~

So this months top ten could easily have consisted of Leann Wormacks 'I hope u dance'...just so I wdnt have to choose just ten out of all the amazing songs I have recently had on repeat!

But here they are folks! Each song excellent!

1. Enjoy. Pope
'Everyday na my birthday'... I like this song a lot because it is creative, different and fun! And my favourite thing to do is to sit people down and play it for them!

2. Ring Ding. Beazy feat. Kel
I LOVE this song, and LovE Kel on it!  And I'm so glad Beazys album is coming out soon! Its a different sound- different and interesting.

3. 2010. Sound Sultan feat. M.I
Maybe it was the video, or certain events, but 2010 made mad sense in May! So of course I had it on repeat! Both on the show, and at home. And I love to sing to callers who flash the show- go buy credit! Go buy credit!

4. Boys Don Hammer. Terry tha Rapman
When the wiskolo wiska enter the zanga, pasa pasa means boys don hammer...
When m.cs use hooks that seemingly make no sense and make it make sense... Ure on to something!
Congrats to Terry tha Rapman by the way! His song, 'sample' recently won Best Rap Single
Methinks next is nominations for Best Rap Album? So here's to the album!

5. Dey Dere. Hakym
Hakym is quiet. His brand of r 'n' b is quiet. But what's not quiet is his talent. he is one of those interesting and 'lucky' combinations- a singer songwriter that can produce.

6. Happy Day. Weird M.C
I like when a songs title makes u expect something, and the song delivers.
Happy Day should make you happy. It is such a feel good song it hurts! And has Weird singing!

7. Money Money Money (Baby I Got It). Femi Adeyinka
First was Never Felt A  love. Then was Mapami. And now its money!
Femi is a confident singer; he takes chances, and sounds just as good live as he does on his records so here's to a brilliant album!

8. Maga No Need Pay
Cobhams, Omawumi, Modele, Banky W, Bez, Rooftop MCs, Wordsmith, M.I
The chorus is catchy, and its a nice blend of voices. Shout out to Wordsmith on this one!

My next two songs had to be on this list. Da Grin came, saw, conquered, died. And we couldn't stop crying. We cried for him, for his parents, for how incomprehensible it was and we cried for ourselves.
He died and we picked up our phones and told our parents and friends we loved them, and we played his albums and every song he featured on cos the more we listened to his songs, the more we believed maybe it was a rumour or dream afterall. Yet the more we listened, the more we cried, cos his lyrics dealt with the issue of mortality. But the longer we listened, the more we smiled cos his music made him immortal. So
9. Every song on Da Grins album, especially, Pon Pon Pon, Ghetto Dreams and Hola Hola, and every song he featured on, and every one of his freestyles or grins!

And

10. My Pain. All Star Tribute
Beautiful song! Love Durella's honestly, Ruggedmans Story telling, Bankys melodious rendition of Grins lines, and how each artiste expressed their thoughts.

We miss Da Grin

~10 HipHop Producers in Nigeria~

Hiphop is a genre growing real fast in Nigeria; after all we are being recognised internationally (Yes, why you think Talib Kweli came to Nigeria, cos of Daddy Showkey?)
Here we have a list of 10 hiphop producers who because of their work in the hiphop scene are worth the recognition. Here we go:

10 HIPHOP PRODUCERS IN NIGERIA
1. XO: XO can be described as one of the most unpopular hiphop producers with the most popular productions. His method of production is second to none. As a former member of the now defunct rap group “NUFF NOIZ” he holds the art of instrumentation and scratches. His beats are that DOPE! Nuff said, surprisingly he was not nominated for this year’s HIPHOP WORLD AWARDS.
Production Credit:
“The Finest” by Knighthouse
“Ijinle Pam Pam” Knighthouse”
“Eko 4 sure” The Kalifate
“All hail” The Kalifate
“Airplane mode” Sauce kid

2. KRAFT: A master at his work, Kraft has carved a niche for himself through his hiphop trademark sampling techniques, especially through his work with his music comrade Modenine. Kraft first hit the scene big with productions on Jimmy Jatt’s “The Definition” album and then Modenine’s “El Plurubus Unum” album but most prominently the “NigelBenn Kraftwork” mixtape. You can tell from his work that he is heavily influenced by soul music.
Production Credit:
“We dey vex” Modenine ft Tuface Idibia
“You can’t hide” Modenine
“Loke” Modenine ft OD & YQ
“Fast money, fast money” M.I ft Whizkid

3. SOSSICK: Sossick is another hiphop producer that is worthy of recognition. Pitching his tent with MO’BB through Classic Tunes, his first prominent work was the entire production of his elder brother GINO’s first album “Pain Plus Work” (which is one of the most looked over albums). Sossick’s production just reminds you that grimy stuff that puts you on the edge. He later hooked up with the late Dagrin to produce 85% of his sophomore album “C.E.O”.
Production Credit:
“No be God” Gino
“Farabale” Gino
“Pon pon pon” Dagrin
“Ghetto dreams” Dagrin

4. MICWORX: The production team consists of veteran rapper and another member of the defunct “NUFF NOIZ” ‘Venomous’, ‘Big Foot’, ‘Smyle’ and ‘DJ Bently’. They are popularly known for their impressive work on IllBliss’ debut album “Dat Ibo Boy”.  Micworx brings all sorts to the music table; smooth, banging, reflective and head bopping. They’ve been involved in other works such as the MTN Project Fame sound production team.
Production Credit:
“Da boss” IllBliss ft Da Suspect
“Glory” IllBliss
“Leader” IllBliss ft Durella
“Tales of the pots” Modenine

5. IKONZ: Ikonz is one of the fast rising hiphop producers in the country. His production stands out amongst others and is top notch quality. He is mostly for his use of the trumpet on his beats. An affiliate of the 4th Republic, Ikonz has worked with a host of artistes although he is still finding his feet in the scene.

~Hype: E-Twinz; Budding Producers~

E-TWINZ a.k.a “The Matrix” (Real names Emmanuel and Daniel) are twin brothers that have been buzzing as producers since 2004. Starting from the church choir, they both learned how to play the piano and drum set.

“Our style takes perfection and finesse because we believe the listener should always be entertained by anything we drop. We switch styles too; hip hop, reggae, R&B, techno. Basically if you want anything urban then we gonna give it to you.”

Their production credit stretches from production for 2Shotz, Big Lo to Mr Kool but their break came with Terry da Rapman’s “How far” ft Sound Sultan.

Currently working on Terry da Rapman’s “Boyz Are Not Smilin’” album, E-Twinz have also dropped beats for artistes like DeJossy, Osagz and Fecko tha Mc and have ongoing works with female rapper Kel.
