~#10 THINGS THAT SHOULD INVOLVE SKUKI~

Well, the Hiphop World Awards has come and gone. Nice performances, lovely tribute to Dagrin and of course Mode9 won Lyricist on the roll for the 5th time in a row since the awards inception, yea Terry da Rapman won too!

But the surprise of the night came when the winner of the next rated category was announced. Nominees in the category were General Pype, Mo'Chedda, Jesse Jags, D'Prince and Skuki. To our surprise, brothers Skuki won! A lot of people are mad, especially the groupies...(Skuki groupies where are you? Haven't you decamped?)

Well in the humour of things, i have come up with 10 things "now popular" Skuki should be involved in. Laugh!

1. Skuki should have been part of "We are the world 25"
2. Skuki should advertise for Baba Ijebu. "if it be you o"
3. To ensure elections are not doctored, Skuki should work with INEC to ensure no pre-winner BS, PDP should be sacred.
4. There should be a "SKUKI AWARD" category in the HHWA. The winner must not deserve the award.
5. Skuki should should go into knockout/fireworks production, it should be branded... "BANGER"
6. Since Aki and Pawpaw will soon be banned from adult roles in movies, Skuki can take over.
7. If at any point, the National Anthem need be changed, Skuki can write a new one.
8. The word "Pishaun" popularized by Skuki should be added to the English, French and Spanish dictionaries. After which we will find a definination for it.
9. What the hell, Skuki should make it to the dictionary too, meaning "suprise surprise".
10. Any set of brothers working in partnership in the same field of work should/must be referred to as "Skukis". E.g "Peter, Paul and Jude Okoye are a bunch of Skukis"

~Interview: Vector Tha Viper~

We caught up with Vector and he was very ready to grant us an interview
RHYMESVILLE: The buzz is really building around you, but that was when you hooked up with YSG entertainment, how come?

Vector: I guess u can say YSG knows what they're doing basically. It’s good when a company knows what they are dealing with and mediums to approach success of the product. It’s all proper planning oh!

RHYMESVILLE: With the lack of A&Rs in the entertainment industry, how have you been able to hook up with other artistes and labels for collabos and cameos on remixes?

Vector: well YSG has got that and the department makes sure all my appearances on songs are on point and they don't plan on stopping yet. It’s like this, CULTURE set it up, VECTOR bless it up.lol.

RHYMESVILLE
: What's your album going to sound like and when is it dropping?

Vector: The album is going to sound like a really talented gut rapping on beats...lmao. I’m just joking. It will be a pure mix of all u can think of: word play, truths, hustle, a lil’ story mix, funny skits, serious music, philosophy, reinventing some old Naija hits (baba fryo’s “Denge denge”) and its release will be weeks from now but we are trying to put somethings in place for proper distribution and output quality.

RHYMESVILLE: Why isn't an Ep or mixtape preceding it?

Vector: They will be no mixtape before the album. The reason being too many people have abused the art of mixtape making. So I am going to drop mine after the album is released just for the heck of it.

RHYMESVILLE
: Consistency Vs Longevity

Vector: For me both go. Like consistency plus longevity equals legendary. When you are consistent as a skilled rapper, u stay long as the status quo so... both go.

RHYMESVILLE
: What's your take on female rappers in hip hop scene?

Vector
: There's great talent with the women too. I see a couple of lil' Kims and Raddigahs coming through maybe some Da Brats Mc lytes and Lauryn Hills (but make I no lie Lauryn Hill na hard work for dem sha). But all d same, the speed at which female emcees surface with nowadays makes you wonder whats going on.

RHYMESVILLE: Tentatively tell us about the guest list on your forthcoming album

Vector: Well, I've got Chuddy K, General Pype, Ade piper, D Gates, Sista Soul, H-Code and
Emmsong on the

RHYMESVILLE: Any videos yet?

Vector: "Kilode" ft Emmsong is in edit as we speak and from the words of the director... the video is craaaazzzzzyyyyyy!

~Phoneversation Between Ruggedman and 9ice~

Ruggedman confronted interviewed 9ice about the 'Nodding' controversy in the latter's song 'Once Bitten Twice Shy'. Stella Dimoko Korkus transcribed the conversation and put it on her Gist Cafe page in Encomium mag.
I copied from the mag.
I'm sure you all know the story. If you don't, the conversation between these superstar artists will give you a clue...
Here it is...

Ruggedman: Hello 9ice, Rugged ni.
9ice: Okay
Ruggedman: You dey Lagos abi you outside Lagos?
9ice: I dey Lagos.
Ruggedman: Abeg I just wan hear from you. This your song, Once bitten twice shy, is it actually about Toni Payne?
9ice: What kind of a question is that?
Ruggedman:...because go my Facebook wall and see wetin people dey write. Dem dey assume say na me and she you dey talk about.
9ice: Which kind talk be that? Me and you get problem? Why you sef go concede to ask me that kind question? You sef f**k up.
Ruggedman: I write for Toni Payne wall and people say I suppose call you and ask you. So that's why I dey call you now. I no say no be me, but I wan hear from you.
9ice: Okay, that kind thing don happen between me and you before?
Ruggedman: No.
9ice: So why you dey follow public say them talk say? You don pass this level na.
Ruggedman: I need you to confirm.
9ice: Rugged, that kind thing don happen between me and you before? Or you hear say 9ice talk say? Leave all these motherf**king press people na. Why you dey follow dem talk?
Ruggedman: No be press dey talk.
9ice: Ehen, so leave them na.
Ruggedman: No be press dey talk, na people
9ice: Rugged, anybody wey talk, bring them make them come follow me talk. Whether them dey there when I talk am. All those things na bullsh**t now. Na people just dey make am up. All those things na make up.
Ruggedman: I write for facebook say as long as 9ice no talk, as long as Toni no talk...
9ice: Abi I call you say Rugged you do this thing? Which kind rubbish be that?
Ruggedman:The reason I dey call you, I been want make even if nah through your publicist, just tell them say look people, I only sang a song, I didn't talk about Toni Payne or Rugged or anybody.
9ice: No mind them jare.
Ruggedman:If I keep quiet about this, some people say being quiet is guilty. If I talk, dem go say I dey try defend myself.
9ice: Exactly.
Ruggedman: Even my momsie (Mum) dey talk say why 9ice no just come out say no, no be so o
9ice: No mind them jare. Thi is 2010 abeg, me I no get too much things to talk abeg. For me personally, what i got to tell the public, I have told them. I am separate with my wife, and that's it.
Ruggedman: We no dey talk about you separation...
9ice: No, why I talk about am be say that na the only thing wey I owe the public. To come dey talk say someone is sleeping with someone...
Ruggedman: Now the issue be say you song, Once Bitter Twice Shy, people dey assume say na me and a lot of people are bugging me about it. I want you to talk so that I know that I have cleared this thing.
9ice: Ok now Rugged, from me to you now, read my lips ho ha, it is not Rugged that I am talking to, and such things have never transpired between Ruggedman and my wife. Allow the public to say whatever they want to say, we are not people, we are stars and as stars, people will talk about us, do you understand? But from me to you, that thing has never happened.
Ruggedman: Thank you.
9ice: So me going out and talking about it sef is rubbish.
Ruggedman: I just need one favour so all this bullshit can stop. Your album is out, it's out. I know what I am working on. I know the kind of calls wey I dey receive. When I heard about it, I did a press release and just said, guys shut up, leave all this alone. 9ice sang a song, he didn't mention anybody's name, so why are people putting me or putting his wife? So, the only favour I ask you as a friend, if na through your publicist, just say look, I sang a song about maybe past experience or something, not about Toni Payne, or Rugged, please leave them alone, finish.
9ice: I won't do that because I no go do am. I no get time.
Ruggedman: Oh so you prefer make people dey talk about me and Toni Payne in that light?
9ice: Rugged, Rugged, at this stage of my career, me I don pass that level. Na something wey I go fit do for 2001. Me I want make you put yourself for that level. Release your album and make your money. Don't give f**k about what anybody says. Na today dem dey talk about you? Do you understand what I am saying? So, why it is now that they talk about you that has to do with me that you are calling me? Rugged what if i know dey around? If they talk about you, the best thing you can do is go all out and clear yourself. Me I dey tell you now say nothing like that happen. What if I write another song like that again tomorrow about the same thing, I would have to clear myself again? What for? It's just a song.

~7 Voices You'll Love To Hear On Radio~

Even with Twitter, Facebook and other internet social sites taking most of time, listening to the radio still gives you a feeling no crack berry can. Here are a list of females OAPs on radio stations situated in Lagos, Nigeria

1. Tosyn Bucknor (TOP RADIO 90.9FM): Believe it or not, this lady’s voice has got the whole Lagos metropolis glued to their radio sets every Monday to Friday morning. Down to earth and very open to her listeners, TopTosyn creates the atmosphere and aura or fun for both the young and old. Extra points go to her for her ability to create different profiles like “Area Mama” and “Sweet 16”.

2. Matse (WAZOBIA FM 95.1FM): She’s got the voice you want to listen to all day. Mostly speaking in pigeon English due to the concept of the radio station, Maste has the charisma of the ever listening ear and her subtleness carries extra points.

3. Toolz (BEAT FM 99.9FM): Usually anchoring the middle belt throughout week days, Toolz is just that “chick” you wanna vibe with. With her slightly British inflected voice, she carries her listeners along with the happenings of the entertainment industry

4. Doris Okafor (METRO FM 97.6): Hey Doris is someone you’ll love to listen to if you’re young and passionate about life. Usually talking in bursts of energy, Doris simply tells it as it is. Her strong points come from her anchoring the “Rock City” segments.

5. Gbemi (BEAT FM 99.9FM): I would love to refer to Gbemi as “the mother hen” lol. I mean she just has got that ever relaxed mood and ability to carry her listeners along. I’m wondering if she would act surprised if there was a nuclear explosion in Gidi (just kidding). She’s got the tone of calmness and control no doubt!

6. Tunmise (EKO 89.75FM): Playful Tunmise stands out with her crispy voice, natural conversation skills and her ability to pass her message across to her listeners in the most pleasurable way as possible.

7. Anita (RHYTHM 93.7FM): Oh yes! Anita definitely makes our list. The very energetic young lady goes all out or should we say goes out of the norm to entertain her listeners. Often switching voice inflections per sentence, she surrounds herself with comedic circumstances. We still feel she could do better with her convo skills though.

~Hype: Beazy and The Affdavit~

Beazy, real name Afolabi Durotoye, was born in Jos but grew up in Lagos and is the second son of Akin and Abake Durotoye. Although his father’s intense love of music ensured there was always music in the house, Beazy was never particularly crazy about listening to music.
In 2005, he released his first mixtape, M.I.L.E (Make It Look Easy) Vol.1. This was positively received by all that heard it and most importantly ensured the support of his parents, which he has till this day.
To put it simply, Beazy is a phenomenal rapper. But as he admits, being a good rapper doesn’t quite cut it these days. In a time when the world seems to be brimming with rap talent, a lot of things set him apart from the horde. It goes way beyond his witty punch lines, catchy hooks or even his cool demeanour on a song.
In May 2009,he released the "Get Money Stay Fly" Mixtape which has since gotten over 100,000 downloads.2 songs from the mixtape "What's your name" and "Lagos Girl" have been receiving regular airplay on radio stations in Lagos and Abuja.
In December 2009, he released "The Affidavit" a 16 track, rap only compilation to serve as further proof of his rap credentials.

~Video: Wande Coal "Who Born The Maga"~

Nice video from WC... Mo'Hits known for dropping videos way after they drop their albums...

~The Tosyn Bucknor Top ten~

Its another edition of my top ten songs that i really just cant get out of my head and honestly in April, the choices 'boku' and these ten just stuck right up to this minute i guess!

So here goes folks, and honestly, this is in no particular order

1. DARLING by SLK
I first heard SLK on 'oju ife lo' and it had an interesting chorus but if you want interesting choruses, you need to put 'darling' on repeat!

2. FLY AWAY by the Rooftop MCs
This song has made this list again because i still have not got tired of it, and now, im winning even more converts. Its even regularly requested for on OAP at LARGE on Top Radio, and i have started a campaign to get them to shoot a video for it!
Did someone say cameo?
No?
okay

3. HAPPY DAY by Weird MC
Weird MC oooooo!
This song is titled Happy Day and its guaranteed to make u smile and move!

4. JOOOO by Jah Bless
Jah Bless might not get rave reviews, but i am sure he has 'street' appeal.
Jooo is one of the funniest songs you will listen to, and the video isnt too bad either!

5. 2010 by Sound Sultan
Where has Sound Sultan been? Who cares?!
He is back, and with 'Aimo Asiko' he had me hooked at Sound. Now, he does what he does best- delivers a socially conscious song that will make u laugh, cry and dance all at the same time

6. KILODE by Vector
'Mary Jane' is such a good song that many people might stay hooked on it and miss out on this one!
Kilode asks a simple question- KILODE????
But for me, what makes it a must listen consistently, is the fact that he asks some simple questions
And Vector is cool cos he will name names
P Square? Check! Timaya? Check! Naeto C? Check!

7. GBAMU GBAMU by 9ice
When the singles were first delivered last year, it was 'Energy' that caught my attention and i played it practically everyday. The calmest energy giving song i exclaimed!
Then i listened to the album and fell in love with No be Mistake.
But now, Gbamu Gbamu is the song o!
Abeg!
Blame it on the video or its constant request by listeners on the show, but i find myself singing the song, dancing to it, and worse, attempting it at Swe Karaoke!

8. LIVE AT 51 by Knighthouse
The Knighthouse Street Scriptures mix tape is a really good one and since the release of their singles, ive had different favourites. First it was 'purple', then it was 'the finest' and then it was 'we are number one' and then it was 'ijinle pampam' and now, it is definitely, Live at 51
I suppose it has something to do with the fact that it has three of my favourite people- Vector, Pype and Pherowshuz.

9. DA GRIn
Which song? You know at this point, the truth is, it could be any song
April will be remembered as the month Da Grin died, and with his death came a surge and thirst for his songs. Truth is, before he died, i had been loving 'gboro' increasingly, but since the Thursday when he died, his songs took on a new meaning

10. ENJOY by Pope
Everyday na my birthday...
Rappers dread me like Bob Marley
Yaba left flow its so insane
Cos i walk with time like my watch's got kicks.....

Pope...Pope...Pope...
He's one to watch, and i have Enjoy on replay, replay, replay....
