~The Top Ten Mcs In 2009~

10. THE KALIFATE
You damn right they made it to the top ten. The trio of Psalmurai, A9 and Dasuki have proven to us this year why they should be, when they dropped the "Re-Ink-A-Nation" album. Extra points go to them for spectacular performances.

9. CARTIAIR
The boy Cartiair has earned himself the #9 spot not just because he's got swagger or he sounds lil' waynish but for the fact that the boy is actually good at writing and rhyming and of course stomped the whole country with one song and a follow up remix (Owo Ati Swagger). He recently dropped his "More Than Rap Music" album which is actually worth the buy.

8.
STR8BUTTAH
This six man team of elite, visionary rappers have been in the
game longer than you know. What brought these underground mcs to the limelight was the award for the best rap video at the SMVAs this year and of course the release of their critically accailmed album SRT8 4RM THA ART.

7. DAGRIN
This ghetto vernacular spitting mc has made a lot of critics mouths go obese like Della Reese (shout out to Biggie!). That "Pon Pon Pon" single of his "C.E.O" album turned heads and even the ladies love him! You might want to hit him on the fact that he rarely spits in English but hey, Dagrin is a sore wound that won't be healing soon.

6. MODENINE
Nigel Benn has been awfully quiet this few months but earlier this year, Dr. Ninestein was really smoking in the hip hop scene with his critically acclaimed LP "The Paradigm Shift". Also, championing the beef with Ruggedman was a major highlight for the veteran. And when we all thought Modey was done for the year, he dropped his much talked about mixtape "09-09-09" to mark his "day" (9th of September, 2009.). Least we forget, he also won the HHWA award for Lyricist On The Roll for the 4th time since it's inception.

5. NAETO C
After the success of his debut album "U Know My P", Naeto C has been staying relevant (with help of his unstoppable chart climber "Kini Big Deal" which he won HHWA for "best rap single") even though he left the country to further his education in Dublin. He has featured on songs with Tosin Martins, Omawumi and Cibil Nyte ft African Emcees. He dropped the single to the sophomore album "Super C Season" called "Ako Mi Ti Poju" and a follow up called "Duro" ft YQ. He just want you to know his P.

Mr. Sinzu (please don't even ask me what Sinzu means) has been a buzzing bee all year from his feature on Knight House's "The Finest" hit song to dropping singles like "Monkey Bananas", "i can't feel my face" to releasing a video to his current single "Na me be fine boy".
Another big thing for Sauce is him signing up with
Storm Records.

3.IILBLISS
The Thoroughbred Vet has been phenomenal this year. A large part for this high position is due to his highly acclaimed album "Dat Ibo Boy" that we waited forever to drop. Well, when it did we were happy to see that Illbliss made an album and not a "bag of songs" meaning that he created a blend of music a lot of rappers have been trying to do!
He was also the main attraction at October's edition of CLUB ROCKAWAY The "Music Na My Hussle Edition". By the way, throw in that Bigiano's "Shayo" remix he lyrically murdered.

2. TERRY DA RAPMAN
Mr. Joe Spazm has paid his dues with slept-on debut albums and record label squabbles to mention a few. He bounced back this year with "The Joe Spazm" Mixtape presented by Knight House and hosted by DJ Jimmy Jatt featuring a host of MCs. Terry was the main feature in Novemeber's edition of CLUB ROCKAWAY "The Boiz Are Not Smilin Edition". Terry has already released two hot singles for the most anticipated hip hop album "Boys Are Not Smiling" which are "Sample" produced and featuring Pherowshuz and "How far" featuring Sound Sultan.

1. M.I
Hate or love him but this dude is in high demand like fuel in Nigeria! F.Y.I, M.I is the only rapper that gets to perform at show which include non rappers like P-square, D'Banj, Banky W et al. After the success of his debut album "Talk About It", the Chocolate City Repper released the "Illegal Music" mixtape which got a pass in the critics books. He also grabbed two MAMA awards as well as HHWA. Add that to the numerous plaques he's been getting here and abroad. Massive points go to Jude Abaga for his eccentric show performances which include live bands.
